Another wonderful guest author!!! Read her "Remembering Why I Scrapbook" here. Many of you know her as “Katie the Scrapbook Lady” so it should come as no surprise that Katie Nelson is passionate about scrapbooking. She has been creating scrapbook pages since the early 1980’s when she discovered the joy of slathering pictures with rubber cement and pasting them on large construction paper album pages! Fortunately, she later found archival safe products and started scrapping the “right way” in 1994.
She gained the nickname of Katie the Scrapbook Lady after several years as a scrapbook consultant, and then as a crop coordinator. In 1999 she created a website to teach others about scrapbooking which she still maintains today at ww.scrapbooklady.org She also sends out a free scrapbooking newsletter to thousands of subscribers. She has had several paper layouts and a feature article on Frugal Scrapbooking published in Memory Makers Magazine.
A confessed “paper addict” who lives within 20 miles of 11 scrapbooking and craft stores, she might seem an unlikely candidate for a digital scrapper. But after picking up Digital Scrapbooking Volume 3 at the grocery store this past spring, Katie knew she had found the creative boost she had been looking for! Combining her love of computer design with her favorite hobby has “changed her scrapbooking life forever.” She is an active member of several online digital scrapbooking communities and also designs her own digital kits available at her website.
Katie lives with her husband of 14 years and their 2 children in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her son was diagnosed with autism in 1996 at the age of 3. Along with her scrapbooking website, she also runs www.helpingautism.com. The past 9 years of learning about autism have led Katie to finally pursue her lifelong dream of writing a book. She is currently putting the finishing touches on “101 Ways You Can Help Your Child with Autism” and 1 of the chapters even focuses on the importance of scrapbooks in the life of a person with autism. Be sure to sign up for her free autism newsletter to be notified of the publication date. When you ask Katie what her favorite thing about scrapbooking is, she will quickly tell you that it is “the incredible feeling of creating a masterpiece for the people you love.”
