A LOT of people have asked me how they can upload a custom banner for their Typepad blogs. So I'll try to explain it. First, though, you need to know that the "basic" level of service doesn't allow custom banners. You have to upgrade to "plus" or "pro" to be able to do this.
1. log into Typepad 2. from Weblogs tab, select the "edit design" of the blog 3. select "change theme" 4. under "Page Banner" click "edit this element" button 5. in the new window that opens, use "Browse" under "optional" to upload your graphic. MAKE SURE the box is checked above that browse box that says "Use this banner image instead of a text title: {should say file name.jpeg} 6. hit "save changes" button 7. once you do this, the window closes and you're looking at the "customize your theme" page you started on. The changes you just made aren't actually made until from THIS PAGE, you scroll down and hit "save changes." 8. if it asks you to republish your blog, then follow the directions and republish it.
You may find once the header is up that the dimensions aren't right -- I always experiment first with blank jpegs and upload them as the header until I find the right pixel width, THEN I make my banner. (Open new documents with white backgrounds, like 650, 700, 750, and 800 pixels wide, and on each one, with the text tool type which dimensions they are, then make arrows (like this <-------- ------------>) that point right up to the edges of the image. then load them into the blog to see what fits the best and how they look. THEN design your banner. You can keep reloading an image over the previous one for the banner. Hope that helps!!!!
